Update: The Skagit and Sauk Spring steelhead will open Dec 16th!!! Big win for Anglers. We are booking for trips now. We plan on limiting our impact by fishing part of the time on the Olympic Peninsula and part of the time on our home rivers Skagit/Sauk.
Locally we are fishing on the Skykomish River and down south on the Satsop, Humptulips or nearby
rivers. The main target is coho but Chum salmon and sea run cutthroat are available also and hatchery steelhead will start to show after Thanksgiving. This time of year can be the best time of year for multi-species action. On most systems chum salmon need to be released. We tied into a bunch last weekend on the "Hump" and man they always surprise me how well they fight... just shear craziness and half of them either broke us off or got tied up in log jams. For multiple days fishing mention "Multi-Day Discount" for $50 off each day. The Humptulips and Satsop both get fish salmon late into November. For guys just interested in Steelhead I'll be fishing the upper Skykomish, Humptulips and Queets Starting in December. On the coast the Queets River is my favorite with great swing water. If that becomes unfishable due to dirty water I head over to fish the "Hump". Both get good numbers of fish. The Queets fish have a little better size. Starting December 16th the Skagit River will open. We will be targeting big Dolly Varden and will release any coho/chum salmon caught. The Dolly Varden fishing in Dec-Jan can be some of the best as they are trying to bulk up on salmon flesh/eggs and are very aggressive. I like swinging light speys and switch rods. If you haven't done it you will have more fun than you think.
I am booking now for Olympic Peninsula steelhead this coming winter/spring. This one books up and prime dates are going now. The Skagit River may be a possibility but until we hear from the powers that be we won't know if there is a season yet. I wish they would get their shit together and let us know. The number of fish has been great for a few years now. Full day river float class - Skagit Bull trout December 16th $189pp With a few trick flies and presentation tips you can learn how to consistently catch these aggressive trout. We don't use most of the usual trout techniques. The class is early enough to find fish in the river and give ya time to get back out and have a few weeks to go get them on your own. Up to 3 anglers per guide. Contact Mike to get in 425-330-9506 or Streamsideflyshop@yahoo.com
