Queets and Clearwater Rivers

Jackie & Dennis OP steelhead

"The Queets River reminds me of what the Skagit River must have looked like 100 years ago." Dennis Dickson

I will have to be very honest with you. Not many of the Olympic Peninsula streams flyfish very well. That is, unless you wade the Queets or the Clearwater rivers. Stunning.

_______________

Not just another school: After spending the last twenty years, as a Fisheries Biologist and Flyfishing Guide, Dennis is offering again, an innovative approach to flyfishing steelhead.

The Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Flyfishing:
Fabled waters in a fabled land. Much has been written about the coastal area and fishing, in Washington's last frontier. From the Hoh River Rain Forest to the Pacific Ocean beaches, there is simply nothing mundane about the O. P. From the Roosevelt Elk to American bald eagle.......life goes on here, as if time forgot it's luggage.

The wild steelhead, salmon, and trout become the epitome, of this timeless land. From the late winter native steelhead, which can exceed thirty pounds, to the little wild summer steelhead, which appear and act like, large aggressive rainbow trout. The Olympic Peninsula streams has something for everyone ........if you are into that wild majestic sort of thing.

Queets River Float trip: March 18
Come with us as we explore to wonderful flywater of the Queets River, within the Olympic National Park. Dickson flyfishing is one of the few outfitters permitted to work within the Park. (See below for full description of the Steelhead flyfishing school(s)

Anglers are taught steelhead migratory patterns, holding waters, including what constitutes a "High Water Lie" and how to catch steelhead when everyone else is saying the river is "Out."

Students will be able to fine tune or learn their casting skills as well as demo the Yancy Line system which has revolutionized single handed casting for cold water steelhead. Dennis & guides will demonstrate their highly effective Yancy Multi-tip flyline system, while you learn not only, what flylines to fish, but how to present the fly in the "Grease line Steelhead Swing." Low & Slow line presentation is the emphasized over and again. Double handed casting and presentation is included.

"Steelhead always take fly hard" is a myth. Learn why, and how to catch the soft taking steelhead in "Steelhead Simulation." A revolutional approach to cold water steelhead. All included in your class.

Anglers will learn three simple knots that cover everything from replacing a tippet to constructing a steelhead leader. Dennis & guides will demonstrate many of their deadliest winter steelheading patterns including, Black Bart and the Cop Car.
