If you don't
own your own equipment you can rent from us. We have a large selection of saltwater flies
and terminal tackle. Our prices are very competitive.
It is critical that you have state of the art high
tech equipment. These big fish in Blue water can tax even the best rigs.
There are many brands of quality equipment available... G-Loomis. Sage, Abel, Pate, - Just to name a few.
Rods
The rods we use (and recommend) are 10 wts.
and the larger rods are 12-13 wt. GL3 - depending on
the species we are hunting. These rods can, and do break - think about a spare.
Reels
Probably the most important piece of equipment is your reel. It should hold 300 yards
(minimum) of 30lb. dacron backing plus the fly line. A dependable drag system is a
must.
Fly Lines
SA makes some very good blue water lines as does Cortland. Shooting heads can be
valuable for the long casts. Many guests prefer to go up a line weight or two to help
accomplish that.
Flies
Anchovy or sardine flies work best - anything with big eyes is good. The fly size should
be determined by the bait that is used for chumming. If the fishing gets hot (which
it probably will) you can go through a dozen or more flies in a day. The hooks MUST
be sharp!!
