Dan, Dave and Mark at Bobbie Lake
Eastern Washington Lakes - fat Rainbow trout

Travel with us to the "Mystery" Lake of Eastern Washington. In the Royal City area, this public waters has all the features of the Nunnelly-Lenice chain......without the crowds! Waters are fertile grounds for some bruising, chunky rainbows and even browns. As a biologist, Dennis has had the opportunity to work with these fat rainbows, and they are a wonderful, strong, fast growing trout, that will change the trout fishery as we know it! Dennis has been teaching lakes classes for some twenty years.

This is what John A. had to say about his experience at Mystery Lake:

Hello Dennis,

I wanted to thank you for showing me one of the finest fishing lakes in the state. It is such a thrill hooking those big, beefy trout. They are so strong and such determined fighters, landing one can really test your skill. It was the next best thing to steelhead fishing.

When I went back out on the lake Saturday evening after the class I was able to pick up 4 nice fish using an olive leach pattern. After catching my first mystery lake fish, I was hooked. I fished until dark and decided to stay for Sunday as well. Thanks to all I had learned from you the day before, Sunday was an incredible day of fishing. I caught fish on a leach pattern in the early morning and on chironomids (thanks to a very kind fisherman that gave me a couple of the hot bugs) in the late morning and early afternoon. I also caught fish using a parachute Adams, a Griffith gnat and even a CDC calebatis. For the day, I landed an even dozen fish and lost at least that many more. Each and every one was a big fighting machine and a thrill to catch.

Thanks again for sharing this wonderful lake and for all your help.

John A.

Mike and Dennis will hold class in late April while the waters are cool, and hatches in swing.

We should be fishing three predominant hatches; Choronomid, Leaches, Mayflies and Dragonfly.

  • Anglers will be introduced to the simple electronics of the portable fish finder, which can locate not only structure, but which areas hold feeding fish. Absolutely awesome!
  • Students will learn the concept of reading lakes; the "Ledge, the Hedge, and the Edge". Zero in with your fish finder.......and all you need to know, is what they are feeding on and how to present it.
  • Matching the Hatch: Simple straight forward approach, of matching your fly to the food source available. Step wise deduction of picking the right fly, at the right time. Size, shape, color, movement..... keys to taking large trout consistently.
  • Presentation: Anglers will be introduced to the FLHS. A floating line, shooting head that will allow you cast fast and far with very little false cast.

Anglers will also learn:

  • The approach
  • Anchoring off
  • Cast and retrieve
  • Learn to swim your fly like the natural
  • See why Dennis says "Don't cast a dragonfly nymph....BE a dragonfly nymph!"
  • Anglers learn to "Slip Strike", a sure way, not to break off that big one.
  • Gary Borger six-gun casting approach has been successful, for the beginner
  • The most vital key to your angling success.....your flylines. Where and how to fish them.
  • Why short leaders are a myth
  • Where and how to fool really large fish
  • Why mooching a fly can be effective, and trolling a fly is not

Plan on a long day. We may start at Bankers hours in the morning......but fish until dark. So grab your gear.....and lets jump some trout!!!!! Equipment available.
Cost: $125.
